Flower Crown DIY


I’m going to make it rain some flowery goodness on you today with a quick and fun tutorial on how to make flower crowns. This is such a fun accessory and it’ll be just in time for all of your last summer concerts and festivals. Work hard play hard right?

Supplies:
Flowers(fake or real is up to you)
Floral wire
Floral tape
Scissors
Hot glue gun (optional)

Instructions:
  • Take one piece of floral wire and put it around the front of your head to bend and shape it
  • Take another piece of floral wire and intertwine it about ¼ of the way around the first piece
  • Now put the connected floral wires around your head to measure the point at which you will intertwine the wire to close it and make a halo
  • Take your flowers and cut them so that each stem is separated
  • Lay the flowers out into the pattern you would like them in on your flower crown
  • Begin to intertwine one flower stem at a time around your floral crown covering with floral tape to secure it
  • Repeat this until you are done
Optional:
  • If your floral wire is already thick. Cut the flower from the stem leaving a flat base.
  • Hot glue the flowers into the pattern of your choice.

Kelley With Love Turns 1 Month!



I know it's only been one month, but I couldn't help but celebrate this small milestone for Kelley With Love! It's been a really fun ride so far and I can't thank you all enough for the sweet comments of support and love! Some of my highlights have included: beyond sweet comments via email and social media, my photo being shared by Ban.do (one of my newest brand crushes),  my manicure from this post being shared by Black Girls Who Blog, and last but not least, my AMAZING email subscribers! To officially celebrate my one month anniversary I did a fun photoshoot wearing this super cute jumpsuit(you can get a similar one here) and a flower crown which is one of my favorite summer accessories! Oddly enough, planning a wedding  to me is just like branding. It has been a tad stressful, but it’s been my mission to find joy and love in all I do this year. Finally I’ve found my sweet spot when it comes to planning which actually worked to your advantage today. The things I love about wedding planning (color coordinating, themes, stationary, fonts) ultimately translate in the business world as branding. I know how stressful it can be trying to figure out visually what you want your business to convey, especially when trying to work with a web designer.  That’s why I wanted to create a simple visual branding style guide for you to use and I’ll tell you how to use it below.

How To Style Your Thoughts in 3 Easy Steps



Did you know that just like your wardrobe, you can style your thoughts? It's true, and today I'll be your very own personal thought stylist! I'll help you get started with clearing the clutter of your mind, knowing your thought style, and building your new thought wardrobe. When we're done, you'll be able to start the inner work of being styled beautifully from the inside out.

Clear the clutter


Clearing out the clutter is always a good place to start when making room for new clothes in your closet,  and it is an especially good place to start concerning your thoughts. Clearing clutter is the art of letting go. When you look at your thoughts? Which thoughts do you find harmful, or non beneficial to you? It's probably those limiting thoughts of fear, self thought, jealousy or hatred. It doesn't matter if these thoughts are towards yourself or others. They are limiting you and directly affecting you. Some examples of limiting thoughts include, "I'm just not good enough," "I'm too old", "Good things never happen to me", "She thinks she's so great", and the list can truly go on and on. The good news is it doesn't have to. Get rid of thoughts that don't benefit you.

Call to action: Today sit down and write down all of your limiting thoughts. Any thoughts that are not of love or beneficial to you or those around you, write it down.  To make this easier, just focus on one are of your life at a time and the thoughts surrounding that area.

Know your style

At this point of your life, you are probably well aware of what you look good in and what types of style make you feel good. If you do, then you can use this on your thoughts too. Think about the thoughts that make you feel good. The thoughts that make you smile and empower you. Those are the thoughts that you want to keep around. That is your style of thought. The key to knowing what works for you weather you're trying to find your fashion style or thought style is to pick what makes you feel good.

Call to action: Now that you have a list of limiting thoughts, take each one and rewrite it into a positive thought on a separate sheet of paper. For example: Negative thought - "I'm just not good enough." New Positive thought: "There are many things that I am good at and doing these things helps me find my true purpose." When you are done, burn or shred your list of negative thoughts. Continue to make your positive thoughts even more positive so that you can continue to feel good.

Build your wardrobe

Now that you know your thought style. Work on one are of your life at at time. Build your thought wardrobe just as you'd build your clothing wardrobe. I shop for business clothes, casual clothes, and work out clothes to name a few. The same goes with your thoughts. Build your thought wardrobe based on the areas of your life that you want to work on or areas you'd like to make even more beautiful. 

Call to action: Write down the areas of your life you want to work on. Now list positive thoughts that support and uplift you in those areas. Now choose one or two of those areas to focus on. Once you feel strong in those areas then choose another to focus on.

Flirting With Fall



Fall is right around the corner. And these cool mornings are definitely a sign of that. I'll be sad to see summer go, but I've already been flirting with Fall. Fashion week is almost here - which means all the latest trends will be hitting runway. This is just a taste of what I have in store for Fall. I want to keep it fun with color, but chic with staples like button ups! This look is easy to put together. All you need is your boyfriend's button up and your favorite pair of summer pants. I love transitioning from summer to fall and I'll share with you some easy but stylish ways to do it too.


Bright Colors and Earth Tones

If you're like me (which I'm guessing you are) you hate to let go of your bright fun summer colors just because the season has changed. Instead of putting all of your summer color away, pair them with earth tones and chambray! This is an easy way to create a fun, but unique look.

Short Lengths and Long Lengths

With the temperature ranging from warm to cool, it can be hard to decide on short sleeves or long sleeves. You may not even know if you want to wear pants, a skirt, or shorts. Instead of choosing one or the other, wear both. Pair a cute skirt with a long sleeve sweater. Sometimes, you can have the best of both worlds.

Layers, Layers, Layers

Fall is all about layers. When it comes to layers it's fun to play around with layering colors and lengths. Plus, if you wear layers, you're covered (no pun intended) no matter what the temperature.

Ice Cream Macaroons



Today I want to share one of my favorite new treats with you - ice cream macaroons! I love macaroons and I've even made them from scratch once(and it took FOREVER), but I've found a way to enjoy my special treat without the hard labor! You can literally make these ice cream macaroons in less than a minute, pinky promise!




You'll Need:

Macaroons (Trader Joes)
Ice Cream
Honey
Sprinkles


Directions:

1. Open the Macaroon
2. Sandwich your favorite ice cream between the top and bottom of the macaroon.
3. Put a drop of honey on top.
4. Add sprinkles

Sleeping In


I didn't exactly wake up like this, but close enough. I had a fun weekend of sleeping in which it seems I never do. For up and coming entrepreneurs like you and me sleep can sometimes feel like an urban legend. Many say sleep is the cousin of death. I think they're wrong. I think sleep is the cousin of creativity. In all honesty sleep and relaxation should be a top priority for entrepreneurs and future entrepreneurs alike. Personally, I happen to know that when I'm well rested I my health is better and so my creative growth.

I rarely sleep in because I usually get up pretty early every morning for work. So on the weekends my body usually doesn't get the memo that we can sleep in.  The weather, however, has been dreary and rainy here lately and so I've inadvertently discovered (and by discovered I mean finally tried it) the secret to sleeping and truly relaxing.





The secret to sleeping in is unplugging. If you're like me and most of the world, you don't go anywhere without your iPhone, iPad, or other some other device (sometimes more than one). This weekend I decided to just unplug and have fun. I definitely recommend you try it too.  Here's what you need to have a fun filled day of sleeping in.


1. Tasty treats

This could be anything from s'mores, fruit, and even macaroons. The only rule is that it must be tasty! My personal fave is 

2. The perfect playlist

A little Beyonce, Ariana Grande, Sheila E, and Katy Perry. Here's a fun playlist to get you moving.

3. Your favorite movies

Lucky for me my fiancé is an avid dvd collector. I'll never run out of things to watch! My favorites are comedies like Bridesmaids and Mrs. Doubtfire.

4. Comfortable PJs

I found the pajamas I'm wearing here at Forever 21. They are super comfortable and I love them because they're so cute!

5. The perfect excuse.

A simple, "Because I want to" will do. Hey, you deserve a day off!

Most of all remember to relax and have fun!

Pineapples and Diamond Rings

Get on the boat, the banana boat! Yes, wrong fruit I know, but every time I see a pineapple I hear that song. Pineapples are so tropical, they remind me of the island life. I'm loving the pineapple trend that is going on right now in the fashion world. Besides the fact that they are my favorite fruit and they're super cute, when they come in gold I'm sold. Naturally when I saw this shirt it was no brainer that it would be leaving the store with me. I mean how cute is this shirt? I love it! It's super cute and it happens to be the shirt I got engaged in! Yup, so here's the story: My fiancé and I were on a little getaway trip in one of my favorite cities, Charleston, SC. The previous week had been very stressful and I had a lot going on while also planning for my blog. 

My fiancé thought it would be a great idea to take some photos while in Charleston for my style posts. So we headed to Charleston, camera in tow, and took some fun shots around the colorful and charming city! Once we were done we headed back to the car. My fiancé told me that he had heard about a water park that he'd like to check out. So we headed to the park where we sat and watched boats go by and laughed and talked about life. We got up to leave, or I got up rather because when I looked down my fiancé was on his knees telling me how he wanted to spend the rest of our lives together and asking me to marry him. And here I thought the highlight of the weekend would be buying my new iPhone! Boy was I wrong! I said yes and then I saw my sparkly ring which I still stare at quite often! The rest of the weekend was spent sharing the news with loved ones and gushing over what a great job my fiancé did choosing my ring. And that My Dear is how the Carter love story began!

Style takeaway - when going away on a surprise trip, pack cute clothes and make sure your nails are done!
