The 3 Things Keeping You From Being A Great Blogger

Hey Dollface! I often get questions about blogging and I’m always flattered to receive them. When I started blogging 5 years ago, I never knew that I’d be able to inspire as many women as I have. It’s truly a humbling experience. I enjoy helping others to build their brands and their blogs so I look forward to giving this advice when asked. With that being said, I thought I would address the topic of being a great blogger. Read below to find out 3 things that keep you from being a great blogger.

Whether you’re new to blogging or you’ve been doing it for a while by now you know that blogging can be anything but easy. Blogging can be fun in the beginning, but sometimes the newness of it wears off quick leaving you feeling burned out and over it! Blogger fatigue is real, but you don’t have to let this get in the way of you being a great blogger. Here are a few things to work on so that you can stand out in a sea of bloggers.

1. Lack of Confidence

Lack of confidence is the number one blog killer! Honestly, it's the number one dream killer. If you want to be a blogger, you have to be make the choice to be confident not just in who you are, but in your writing style and voice.

The fix: The quickest way to build some confidence and identify your writing voice is to write about everything. Get a journal or open a word document and write about any and everything. This way you'll let go of the fear of writing and of just being who you are.

2. Lack of Consistency

We often have the ideas, but lack the dedication. One thing I've learned as a blogger is that your readers love consistency. Consistency could refer to the fact that you always cover a certain topic. Consistency could also mean that you post every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The way you define consistency is totally up to you, but realize that some form of consistency is necessary.

The fix: I know you've heard it time and time again, but start an editorial calendar! As a blogger, sometimes an editorial calendar will be your saving grace because it's a place to not only record all of our ideas, but it allows you to put yourself on a loose schedule and allows you to always stay on track. Editorial calendars will help you with consistency!

3. Lack of Visibility

So you've decided to be a blogger, awesome! Now you have to work on being visible! Who wants to blog if you're not reaching your target audience, or worse...no audience at all? Most of us started blogging to help someone or to show case something we hold special to our hearts. While you must have a personal love for blogging, support and interaction will be two things that keep you going. The only way you'll have support and interaction is to be visible!

The fix: There are several ways to make yourself visible in the blog world. The biggest ways include twitter chats, forums, connecting on Instagram or Facebook, commenting on other blogs and good old fashion emails! There are amazing twitter chats like the Blogtrends chat that happens every Monday at 9pm that can be joined and followed by using the hashtag #blogtrends. Many website also have forums that you can join and chat with others about shared interests. Also, don't be afraid to comment on other blogs and email other bloggers to introduce yourself. Connecting with other bloggers and your readers will help to increase your visibility.

OUTFIT: Tulle Skirts & Lace

Traveling the world, wearing tulle skirts, and having brunch at the cutest and quaintest spots...that's what I dream of my life consisting of. When I'm looking for something simple, but eye catching I usually reach for a tulle skirt. It's amazing how this one article of clothing can make a girl feel so feminine, free, and iconic. Thanks to Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and The City, the tulle skirt will forever be in. This is definitely a staple I'd recommend that every girl have.

OUTFIT: Stripes & Sequins

Sequin Tank

Let's face it, you can't go wrong with stripes and sequins. I love mixing patterns and coming up with fun outfits. Stripes are so classic and sequins are such a party that you can't really go wrong with pairing this combination. This is definitely a party look, but hey... if everyday is a party for you then you don't need a special occasion to rock a look like this! I definitely support making life the party you hope for everyday! What's one of your favorite pattern combinations that you like to mix?

OUTFIT: Hi Low Skirt

I have to admit, I've always been in love with hi low dresses and skirts. It's never been just a trend for me. When I was a senior in high school, in true Kelley fashion, I asked my mom to make me a prom dress. I didn't like anything we saw when we went prom dress shopping, so I came up with the brilliant idea to show her the design of two dresses that I liked and wanted to be combined. Lucky for me, my mom is a creative genius and pulled it off effortlessly. When she was done, I had one of THE most beautiful dresses to wear to prom - a backless, high low dress. I felt like a princess all night! That probably explains my love for this trend, that's not really a trend. I love the drama that the dynamic design of a hi low skirt gives. When styling a hi low look, stick with something simple on the top to balance out the drama on the bottom. Ciao!

OUTFIT: Maxi Dress

So here's the truth....sometimes I can be extremely lazy when it comes to fashion and style. When life gets busy I tend to go for comfort over everything. I'm very much an easy living chic kind of girl. I like my clothes stylish, but comfortable - enter the maxi dress! Yes, you can have it all when it comes to style and the maxi dress is proof of that! This is currently my favorite maxi dress. I purchased this dress from Target this past fall. It's perfect for cool weather and it's easy is to grab, throw on, and still look well put together without the hassle. A few accessories are all that's needed to complete the look.
