3 Fun Ways to Build and Maintain Long Distance Friendships

Has life been busy for you lately? I know it has been for me. When life is busy it can be hard to balance all of our responsibilities like work, dreams, and relationships. That’s why it is important to make certain things a priority in your life so as to not overlook them when things get hectic. For me, maintaining and building relationships is and always will be a big priority in my life. I believe that we can learn and grow so much simply by connecting with others. This can get tricky when everyone has different schedules and are traveling in different directions. So today I thought I’d share with you some of the fun ways I build and maintain my friendships.

Meet on Google Hangouts & Skype

I get it, giving out personal information in the beginning stages of getting to know someone for business, friendship, or whatever it can be scary. That’s why options like Google Hangouts and Skype are fun! With these two channels of communication you can talk with or without video and you can do it using only email. This is especially great for entrepreneurs looking to build business relationships and collaborate with others. Recently, I connected with Lolita Taub creator of the F Show that identifies and follows the progress of millennial entrepreneur females.

Hangout on FaceTime

Recently, my bestie moved away to get her Ph.D (Go Kirsten!). We’ve never been this far apart, but because we’re so close our friendship hasn’t skipped a beat. In fact we may even talk to each other more now that she’s further away. My bestie doesn’t have cable, but I do and there are certain shows we both enjoy watching. Our solution? FaceTime! It may sound crazy, but it is SO fun. We call it “family time” and when it’s time for our show to come on I set my iPad near the TV so that the bestie can watch the show with me! I cannot tell you how much we both enjoy this.

Connect Through Snail Mail

Remember in college when your parents sent you care packages? You know, little packages of the things you loved. Well that’s what snail mail is. Snail mail doesn’t even have to be a huge package. It can simply be a post card to let someone know you’re thinking of them. It could be a thank you card to express your gratitude for an opportunity. It could even be a “just because” gift or a special invitation. The best thing about snail mail is that you can customize it as much as you want. In such a digital world, a beautiful package in the mail is always a nice surprise.

What are some fun ways you build and maintain long distance friendships?

How to Have the Best Bridal Shower Ever

Have you ever had so much fun at an event that you forgot to take pictures? Well ,that was me this weekend at my bridal shower. My bridal party threw me the BEST bridal shower ever. The shower was complete with mimosas, Eiffel towers, poufs made of shades of pink and gold, champagne cupcakes, personalized m&ms, balloons  fun games, great food, amazing family and friends, and an amazing location. My bridal shower was held at Nonnahs, in Columbia, SC. Nonnahs is a quaint little brunch spot located downtown in the Vista, a hotspot in Columbia. My guests loved it and couldn't express enough how much fun they had. The best part of all is that I didn't know much about the shower prior to getting there and my bridal party didn't allow me to lift a finger. So are you interested to know how to have the best bridal shower ever? I'm sharing some tips with you below on how to have a stress free fun time.

1. Choose your bridal party carefully.

After we got engaged, my fiancĂ© and I knew that if we had a wedding we would have a small wedding party. When I choose my bridal party, I wasn't just thinking of who was closest to me. I thought of who knew me the best and who would work well together. Ar the end of the day you want the process to be as effortless, fun, and peaceful as possible.

2. Don't be controlling.

If you're planning a wedding, or any event for that matter, try not to control every aspect of everything. Delegate, delegate, delegate! You want to know why this is important? It's simple, because you don't want to be the only one stressed out. Remember, the one who always has to have control is the one that ends up with the most stress. When my girls asked me what I wanted for a bridal shower, I simply told them I wanted to have fun!

3. Let go of expectations.

Because I released the need to control every aspect of the whole weddng process, I was able also able to let go of impossible expectations of perfection. I know all too well about things not always turning out exactly how I pictured. Trust me, letting go of expectations allows for the element of surprise. Surprise is a good thing. The biggest surprise I've had during this whole process is just how much people love me and will go out of their way to make sure I'm happy and enjoying myself.

4. Invite people you love to have fun with.

This is really a no brainer! Just because it's a bridal shower does not mean you have to invite your whole family, church, and job. Believe me, gifts are not important enough to invite a Debbie downer to your shower. You want to invite a group of people that are really going to show up to have fun! That will easily take away from any mishaps or mistakes that may occur.

5. Get pampered!

Now that you've decided to let go all that's left for you to do is pamper yourself. It's your special day and you'll want to look your best. Besides, the old saying when you look good you feel good is true!

6. Allow yourself to have fun.

After completing each of these steps, you'd think you're bound to have fun - and you're mostly right. However, for me guilt about the things I wasn't doing, like blogging, working on my brand, building my business tried to creep in (#entrepreneurproblems). You want to know what I did to get rid of the guilt? I reminded myself that this time of my life will only happen once! My advice to you if you experience these feelings is to remind yourself of the same and to allow yourself to be free of guilt so that you can have fun!

Pretty Planners 2015

Can I tell you a secret?... Life is a whirlwind for me right now! The holidays tend to be busy naturally, but planning a NYE wedding on top of it might be (in the words of Marie Forleo) crazy pants. None the less I am enjoying creating new memories and connecting with the people I love the most for the holiday season. I’d be a mad woman if I didn’t practice using some type of planning and organization in my life right now. Although I’ve always had a penchant for stripes, sparkle, and stationary; pretty planners  are no longer just a want, but a necessity in my life. Adding the title wife to my plate is a splendid addition, but an addition all the same and I want to step into my new role with grace and poise so I’m already looking for a 2015 planner to help keep life for me and my soon to be hubby in order. Check out all of the planners I have been eyeing below and help me choose which one I should start the new year with by leaving a comment below.
